Launching into the New Year! 🚀
A Black Brant IX sounding rocket is now scheduled to launch Saturday, January 8, carrying an experiment to study the origin of soft X-rays in our galaxy that impact technology in Earth’s atmosphere.
While not harmful to us on the surface, these X-rays can disrupt radio communications and accuracy of GPS systems. Soft X-rays have lower energy as compared to hard X-rays, which are used in imaging for medical applications.
For those in the mid-Atlantic region, weather permitting, you may catch a glimpse of the rocket. The window opens January 8 at 11 p.m. EDT and runs until 2 a.m. January 9. Learn more: https://go.nasa.gov/3mGKIBk
