The Chincoteague Island Farmers and Artisans Market & Kitchen Art Gallery at the Chincoteague Cultural Alliance, 6309 Church Street, will kick off the 2026 season on May 9th from 9am - 1pm with 45+ vendors offering fresh local seafood, produce, other good things to eat and a wide array of arts & crafts.

With hands-on exploration, guests can simulate asteroid impacts, experiment with crater-making, and explore the physics of space rocks through interactive activities.

Don’t miss a special guest presentation at 11 a.m., featuring USGS Research Geologist David Powars, of the Chesapeake Bay Impact Crater — the largest known impact crater in the United States. David will share the fascinating story of how he uncovered this massive, 35-million-year-old cosmic collision buried right beneath our region.

This free program is perfect for space enthusiasts, families, and curious minds of all ages!

This class is an introduction to the ancient art of sumi-e painting (Asian brush stroke painting). You will learn how to load a brush with ink and water, how to hold and control your brush, and how to paint bamboo. Sounds simple, right?
All supplies included: brushes, rice paper, and ink.
NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!!!!! This class is designed for beginners - those of you who love the art form but have never tried it. You will love it.

Our evening Pirate, Legend and Lore tour is fun and factual! Learn about Chincoteague’s link to piracy, sunken ships off our shores, a tragic death that leads to a ghost story and so much more about this fascinating little island! 

All tours start at 7:00pm 

These are walking tours in the historic downtown, with several places to sit along the way, 1/2 mile at a leisurely pace,
