☀️ Summer is almost here at the Chincoteague Island Library—and so is Lubbock’s Learners Summer Reading Program!

Early sign-ups are now open, and this year is shaping up to be our most exciting yet. Designed for all ages—from little readers to teens—this program is full of reading adventures, activities, games, and fun for the whole community.

We’ll kick things off on June 13th with Library Field Day at Robert Reed Park from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Sign-ups close July 1st—don’t miss your chance to be part of a summer filled with learning, creativity, and connection!

Summer Bird Walk

📍 Meet at Woodland Trail Parking Lot

Join us for a 2-hour guided walk to look for summer residents—waterfowl, shorebirds, colorful songbirds, and more. Learn helpful identification tips.

✅ Expect to walk at least one mile on refuge trails

The Chincoteague Island Farmers and Artisans Market & Kitchen Art Gallery at the Chincoteague Cultural Alliance, 6309 Church Street, will kick off the 2026 season on May 9th from 9am - 1pm with 45+ vendors offering fresh local seafood, produce, other good things to eat and a wide array of arts & crafts.

Join the Chincoteague Cultural Alliance on the porch each week during the Island Farmers and Artisans market for a FREE kids craft!

Kids must be accompanied by an adult.

Starting Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend climb the 175 steps of the lighthouse and observe the beautiful nature and wildlife in a new way!

📢 Wings Over Wallops

Friday, June 12 and Saturday, June 13

Eyes on the sky! It's airshow time! 

Join us Friday, June 12 and Saturday, June 13 to catch a host of aircraft arriving and departing NASA's Wallops Flight Facility for the Air Dot Show Ocean City! Bring your chair and grab a spot on Visitor Center grounds and watch the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, Patrouille de France, F-35 Lightning II Demo Team, and more flying in and out of the Wallops Airfield on their way to show center in Ocean City, Maryland.

Stop inside the Visitor Center between 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to explore our exhibit hall. Hands-on activities will be held inside from 10 a.m. to noon during both days.

Friday, June 12 - Practice Day: Flights may take place between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Times subject to change!

Saturday, June 13 - Show Day 1: Expect to see flights between 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Weather dependent.

NOTE: Visitor Center grounds will NOT open for Sunday, June 14 (final airshow performance date).

Gate Hours: Visitor Center gates/grounds will be open for an extended period of time on Friday and Saturday only — 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (The Visitor Center's exhibit hall & gift shop will operate on normal hours: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.)

Join us for a 45-minute yoga practice led by Melissa, followed by acupuncture facilitated by Sarina.
This gentle, effective protocol is especially welcoming for those new to acupuncture. What to expect: After settling into your final resting pose, Savasana, five tiny needles will be gently placed in each ear, inviting deep relaxation and a nervous system reset.

These are walking tours in the historic downtown, with several places to sit along the way, 1/2 mile at a leisurely pace,
