Local Kiwanis partners with Dolly Parton

Children under the age of 5 who live in the Chincoteague Elementary School Community are eligible for a free book each month until their 5th birthday. The books are provided by the Dolly Parton Imagination Library and mailed to the child at no cost to the family thanks to support from the Kiwanis Club of Chincoteague.

Parents or Guardians can pick up an application at the Chincoteague Elementary School office, the Chincoteague Library, YMCA or Community Health Center. Completed applications can be returned to the school, the library or mailed to Kiwanis Club of Chincoteague at PO Box 23, Chincoteague Island, VA 23336. Applications can be submitted online at www.imaginationlibrary.com and click "Getting Started" then “Can I Register My Child”.

The Imagination Library, started in 1995, has shipped tens of millions of books worldwide working with local “Champions” who raise funds to cover the costs of mailing.

The Kiwanis International is dedicated to “improving the lives of children one community at a time”. The Kiwanis Club of Chincoteague has accepted the role of local champion and feels that the Imagination Library is a perfect fit with the Kiwanis mission.

In addition to this new project, The Kiwanis Club of Chincoteague has been supporting the community since 1946. Kiwanis helps area youth by sponsoring the Boy Scouts, local sports teams, After Prom for the high school students and Terrific Kids Awards for elementary school students, for both involvement and academics. In 2019, Kiwanis awarded over $11,000 in college scholarships to Chincoteague High School seniors

If you are interested in giving a few hours of your time helping  the youth of Chincoteague, contact club president at 757-894-1795 or talk to any Kiwanis member.
