Governor Northam Lifts Mandatory Evacuation for Zone A as of 10:45am September 14

 

FINAL Public Service Announcement September 14, 2018 900 - From Town of Chincoteague Emergency Management Team

 

Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge will reopen on Friday, September 14 at 5pm and resume normal hours on Saturday.

 

Assateague Island National Seashore will reopen on Friday, September 14 at 5pm with the Lifeguarded Beach, OSV, Toms Cove Visitor Center and Parking Lots 2, 3 & 4 closed. Visitor Center and Lifeguarded Beach will be open regular hours on Saturday.

 

U.S. Post Office on Chincoteague will reopen on Saturday.

 

Chincoteague Island Family YMCA will reopen at noon on September 14.

 

Island Theatre will reopen Friday, September 14.

 

Chincotegaue Island Library will reopen Saturday, September 15 10am - 5pm. 

 

Museum of Chincoteague Island will be closed September 14-16.

 

NASA Visitor Center will reopen on Tuesday, September 18.

Pony Express Trolley will resume service for their normal Friday and Saturday schedule.

 

Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge is closed as of 10pm, September 12th. After the storm, the refuge will remain closed until the roads and trails are made safe for our visitors.

Assateague Island National Seashore has begun storm preparations to ensure the safety of park visitors, park employees and protection of park infrastructure. The following closures and cancellations are in effect for the Virginia District:

Toms Cove Visitor Center closed at 1:00pm Tuesday, 9/11/18.
Lifeguarded beach closed at 5:00pm Tuesday, 9/11/18.
Over-Sand Vehicle zone is closed.
Parking lots 2, 3, and 4 are closed.
All ranger-led programs are cancelled for 9/11-15/2018.

All national seashore closures are subject to change if the path of Hurricane Florence changes.

 

Chincotegaue Island Library will be closed Wednesday, September 12 through Saturday ,September 15. Reopening at 10:00 AM on Monday, September 17. ALL LATE FEES DURING THIS PERIOD WILL BE EXCUSED. Please DO NOT return books to the library at the book return bin until the library reopens. Books can become damaged in the book returns during heavy rains.

Public Service Announcement September 11, 2018 1200 - From Town of Chincoteague Emergency Management Team

 

Town of Chincoteague has issued a mandatory evacuation for all non-residents beginning at 8am, Wednesday, September 12. All non-residents should return to their primary homes at that time. Accomack County shelters will open 5pm on Wednesday, September 12. Accomack County Emergency Shelter Locations and Information  

 

Chincoteague Island Family YMCA will begin running their 'Do Good Bus' to assist those who would not otherwise be able to get to Accomack County shelters once they open. Bus can carry up to 14 people per trip and will make as many trips as are allowed before the storm starts or the causeway closes. They are trying to confirm a pet-friendly shelter in Pocomoke and will *try* to do trips there, as well. Call (757) 710-6414 if you or a loved one needs help getting evacuated and to the shelter. 

 

All Accomack County Public Schools are closed Tuesday, September 11 to Friday, September 14.

Closures & Cancellations

 

NASA Wallops Flight Facility Visitor Center will be closed Wednesday, September 12 until further notice due to impending storm

Chincoteague Cultural Alliance weekend activities for September 14-17 have been cancelled - including Chincoteague Farmers and Artisans Market, the CCA Coffeehouse and the Resin Framed Art Class.
