Monday Nights at Main and Mumford is celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Woodstock. It is co-sponsored by Chincoteague Island Arts Organization and Sundial Books. Break out the tie dyes and your peace sign jewelry for “Woodstock: 50 Years of Peace & Music”.
Fifty years ago, the legendary event known as “Woodstock” became a pivotal moment in American culture and music. The Chincoteague Island Arts Organization and Sundial Books will commemorate the Woodstock anniversary with a special presentation by Amalie R. Rothschild, a film-maker and photographer who was at Woodstock and captured many images of what happened there. Her photographs are showcased in the book Woodstock: 50 Years of Peace and Music by Daniel Burkszpan, copies of which will be available for purchase at the event, and Ms. Rothschild will sign them after her talk.
Rothschild is noted for her award-winning documentaries about social issues as revealed through the lives of people in the arts, and for her music photographs from the Fillmore East, Woodstock and other seminal rock events from 1968 to 1974. Her 1969 picture of Bob Dylan at the Isle of Wight graced the cover of Rolling Stone. Among the musicians she photographed as the Filmore East photographer-in-residence were Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Frank Zappa, The Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Santana, Jefferson Airplane, Crosby Stills and Nash, and Pink Floyd. Many examples of Rothschild’s work were included in “The Psychedelic Sixties”, a major 2005 exhibition held at the Tate Gallery.
This program is offered as one of our summer-long series, “Monday Nights at Main and Mumford”, generously supported by our sponsor, the Eastern Shore Post newspaper.
Admission to this special Monday evening show is free. There will be a wine and beer cash bar. Appropriate attire is welcomed. The Island Theatre Annex is located at 4076 Main St. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Buy signed copies of her new book and enjoy an exhibit of her Woodstock photos.
