In recognition of Black History Month, the Chincoteague Island Arts Organization is honored to announce that the Island Theatre will show the Film “Harriet” on Sunday, February 23, at 3 p.m. This special, one-time showing is free to the public.
“Harriet” tells the story of Harriet Tubman, American abolitionist, suffragette and social activist who is known for freeing herself and over 70 others through repeated treacherous journeys using the legendary Underground Railroad, a network of antislavery citizens and safe houses. But, as this film shows, her other endeavors and life-long accomplishments make her story even more remarkable. Her life story also has a local reference: it started in nearby Dorchester County, Maryland.
Join us to experience this remarkably inspiring film. Doors will open at 2:30 p.m.
