The first classic movie in our new fall schedule is Alfred Hitchcock’s acclaimed 1940 movie, “Rebecca”, a psychological thriller. It was Hitchcock’s first American production and his only film to win an Oscar for Best Picture.  Based on the novel of the same title by Daphne DuMaurier, it tells the story of a young woman who juggles adjusting to her role as the new wife of a troubled aristocrat while being haunted by the spectre of his first wife. Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine star in the movie that has often been cited as one of the best of all time. Dame Judith Anderson, in her role as the housekeeper, has been named one of the top fifty movie villains by the American Film Institute.

“An altogether brilliant film” – The New York Times
