The Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company and the Saltwater Cowboys will round up the south herd of Chincoteague Ponies on Assateague Island to check on the overall health of the ponies and to see any new foals that have been born.
On Friday afternoon (around 4:30 p.m), the cowboys will round up the southern end of the pony herd and corral them into the south pen on road going out to the beach on Assateague. This round up usually takes a couple of hours and there is plenty of parking access to the ponies for the crowd to see. If you park in the Woodland Trail parking lot, please know that once the gates are open for the ponies to enter the corral, your vehicle will not be able to leave the parking lot until all the ponies are in the corral and the gates are closed. There is also ample parking along Beach Road. Once the ponies are in the pen, then the crowd can come up to the fence and take pictures, etc.
Fall Pick ups- you can pick up your foal starting Saturday morning, Oct 13th starting at 9:00 a.m. YOU MUST HAVE YOUR RECIEPT IN HAND. NO RECIEPT, NO PONY, NO EXCEPTIONS..
Late born foals- the foals that have been born since pony penning will be brought to the carnival grounds with their mares. If you are interested in purchasing one of these foals, be at the carnival grounds Saturday afternoon, no earlier than 3:00 p.m. At that time, you can discuss purchase price and when you would be able to pick up your foal later (at least November).
