Owned and operated by Beth Mills, Sea Art specializes in original watercolors inspired by the stunning wildlife and scenery of Chincoteague and Assateague Islands. Her work is showcased at Bay Blessings Gallery on Main Street Chincoteague where she can often be found on the front porch creating art and greeting passersby.
Since the first time she crossed the causeway in 1976 to visit the beautiful island of Chincoteague, Beth has held a special love of the Island in her heart. Over the years, it has inspired much of her work. Focusing on Realism and Naturalism her works capture the movement of her subjects. From birds gliding through the water, a butterfly landing gently on the marsh grasses, a playful pony peeking out from behind his mother, or a sea turtle popping up his head to say hello, Sea Art by Beth brings the majesty of nature to the canvas in bold and inspiring work. Though much of her work is on canvas, Beth enjoys finding new ways to express herself through painting found items, such as driftwood, old oyster boxes, lanterns, barrel lids, clothespins, whatever inspires her. Never one to think small, she has transformed an old door into a chic headboard and an old headboard into a porch swing.
Beth has been a painter since she was a little girl, following in the footsteps of her mother who was an award winning artist specializing in oil paintings. After majoring in Art she has never let her thirst for knowledge falter and has continued to take many classes throughout her life to hone her skills. She studied Cloisonné at the Smithsonian in Washington DC for two years. She also continues to refine her skills by teaching others, having taught many art classes over the years and learning from her students as much as she taught them.
Be sure to stop by Bay Blessings on Main Street to meet Beth and discover her work.
