David Landsberger Family YMCA July 2020
Letter from the Director
The David Landsberger Family YMCA reopened for our members on Friday, June 12th and it’s been amazing to see excited members returning to their workouts. Everyone that has been into our facility has voiced their appreciation of the steps that the YMCA is taking to ensure the cleanliness of the facility and the safety of our members. As we move into July, we will continue to implement these protocols, which include:
In compliance with CDC, Health Department and Y-USA guidelines, these additional safety steps will remain in place until it is deemed unnecessary. Until then, we appreciate your understanding as we work through these uncertain times.
As you will see in this newsletter update, we have plans to begin lifting some of the facility restrictions that we reopened with in order to better serve our greater membership base.
We hope that many more of you will feel comfortable coming back to the Y this month. If you are hesitant and would like to just come in to take a tour and to see us in action, we would welcome you to do so.
Please feel free to reach out to me any time! My staff and I appreciate your membership and look forward to your return.
Katie O’Shea
Executive Director

Travel the Chesapeake Y to Y virtual member challenge
Congratulations to those members that signed up for, and completed, the 400 virtual miles between the 11 branches of the YMCA of the Chesapeake!
This was a wellness challenge that converted exercise time into miles, encouraging members to stay healthy-at-home between April 27th and May 31st.
Overall, we had registrants from 7 of our 11 branches, and a total of 42 members compete against themselves over these 5 weeks.
The first place winner with a total of 2,389.5 virtual miles is Jennifer Shea from the Perkins Family YMCA! Congrats to you, Jennifer!
Facility Updates
Stay & Play
Beginning July 6th, Stay & Play will reopen with modified hours and limited capacity. Here is the information our families need to know before bringing their children to the YMCA:
Tuesday and Thursday: 8:30-11:00 am and 4:00-7:00 pm
Saturday: 8:30-11:00 am
We are requiring that all children follow the social distancing rule while in the center. As we understand this may be hard for young children to understand, families can help prepare their children for our new procedures prior to arriving at the YMCA. Please explain to children that they will need to maintain their distance from other children not in their family unit while at the YMCA.
Group Exercise Classes
A variety of Group Exercise Classes are taking place with social distancing and increased cleaning measures in place. Please visit the YMCA of the Chesapeake App or website to view our current schedule.
We’ve heard your feedback and thus have decided to reinstate our daily Facebook Live classes. Beginning the week of June 29th, we will once again offer live streaming classes (one class per day) in a variety of formats that can be done at home with little to no equipment. Please check out the YMCA of the Chesapeake Facebook page for the live classes. The schedule of live classes will be included on our in-person class schedule*
*Please check the YMCA of the Chesapeake App or the Website for the most up-to-date class schedule.
