| The Purple
Pony Shirt Company is a quaint little shop located on the corner of Main & Church
Streets in Chincoteague. It is a family business, owned and operated by islanders Mike
& Terry Bernstein, since 1980. The shirt business is nothing new to Mike. His father
before him ran a shirt factory on Chincoteague, which supplied mens shirts
throughout the east coast. Mike and his family will share their island stories with you,
and make you feel right at home.
The building that houses The Purple Pony is a historic site. It was an old bank building in the early 1900's. The bank closed its doors in 1930, and nothing has been sold out of it until now. Here you will find unique T-shirts and sweatshirts, with one of a kind designs not available in other shops. There is also an array of novelty items for sale, depicting the magic of Pony Penning and Chincoteague Island. Come in and see the always popular "I Earned This Shirt" or the "Crack of Dawn Club" shirt. There are also hand-made Chincoteague Ponies, signs, tote bags, hats, flags and much more. Come in and visit with Mike and Terry, and take a little piece of Chincoteague charm home with you. |
