Elderhostel is an educational adventure for adults 55 and over who are looking for new experiences and something different. An elderhostel program offers new beginnings, opportunities, and challenges. The Oyster
& Maritime Museum’s elderhostel programs provide the opportunity to expand your horizons with people who are interested in the same things that you are.
The Oyster & Maritime Museum’s Elderhostel is one of the most recommended in this part of the country. The programs often contain lectures and field trips about local history, lighthouses, Chincoteague Ponies, music, and other maritime / Chincoteague subjects. Field trips include the Assateague National Seashore and the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge.
The museum is also the sponsor of the only Service Hostel in the area. This program is only run twice a year. While here, the participants work on The Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge. Work projects range from building observation platforms, to building bird boxes, to painting the yellow lines in the parking lot. No special skills are needed to do these programs. Just a willingness to help. Ask about program #2637 if you think you might be interested.
