The Festival was originated by the
Chincoteague Chamber of Commerce to promote the seafood industry and
to mark the arrival of the oyster season. This popular event is
always a sell out and ticket availability cannot be guaranteed on
the day of the event. |

Although
serving time for the all-you-can-eat event begins at noon, the gates
are open early in the morning at the Maddox Family Campground where
the festival is held. The numerous food booths will offer oysters
prepared in just about any way imaginable! In addition, clam
fritters, hot dogs, hush puppies, potato salad, cole slaw,
and various beverages are available.
Proceeds from
the Chincoteague Oyster Festival help fund the Chincoteague Chamber
of Commerce's efforts to publicize the Island. The Chamber of
Commerce annually sponsors the Oyster Festival and the Easter Decoy
Festival as its primary fund raising events.
