This Lighthouse was discontinued because it could not serve its purpose for some time.

Killock Shoal LighthouseIt was tom down, leaving the foundations and skeleton light or buoy to guide the sailors because at low tide there was a chance of getting ashore, and it was later removed because of the unnavigable waters.

Between 1963-1965, a lighted beacon through Lewis Creek, and Chincoteague Bay, to Ocean City was used instead.

Due to high tides and storms great changes took place and, therefore, Killock Shoal Lighthouse couldn't serve its purpose, because of insufficient waterways.

The lighthouse had several rooms and the families would stay in there while the keeper was on duty. Mr. D. Peterson, Mr. Charles McGee, Mr. Maurice Tarr, Mr. Andrew Tarr and several others served several years on duty here.
