20th Annual Great Backyard Bird Count
On one or more of the count days, come observe and record species of birds and their numbers in the backyard bird garden of the Herbert H. Bateman Educational and Administrative Center. Volunteers may be on hand throughout the event to tally and discuss the species identified. Each day data will be submitted to eBird to share sightings on the refuge with others around the world. Birdwatchers of all skill levels are welcome. Through this event you’ll learn how to identify winter visitors likely common to your backyard and help researchers learn more about how birds are doing, and how to protect them and the environment we share.

Cemetery Clean-Up

9am-12pm. The Museum of Chincoteague Island is partnering with the Town Cemetery Committee to clean up the Christ Union Baptist Cemetery in honor of Black History Month. This will involve hedge clipping, leaf raking & trash gathering. Please bring hedge cutters, clippers, hand saws, rakes and protective clothing. 23rd Annual International Migratory Bird Celebration

International Migratory Bird Day (IMBD) is the only international education program that highlights and celebrates the migration of nearly 350 species of migratory birds between nesting habitats in North America and non-breeding grounds in Latin America, Mexico and the Caribbean. Each year IMBD explores a different aspect of migratory birds and their conservation. This year, many events will take place on May 13. Many wildlife refuges take part in IMBD celebrations.
