Save the Eggs!

1pm-4pm. Space-Themed Egg Hunt & Egg Engineering Challenge Event. Join the NASA Wallops Flight Facility Visitor Center's event. Participants will have the opportunity to collect space-themed eggs and prizes during an egg hunt, creat an eggstronaut for an egg drop challenge, and participate in egg science demonstrations, egg rocket races, solar system toss, egg-spoon catapult and more! The space-themed egg hunt, scheduled for 1pm will be set up on the grounds of the Visitor Center and will include two separate zones; one for young and one for older children. The eggstronaut drops will occur starting at 2:45pm. Participants will be encouraged to have their design ready for the drop by 2:30pm. The remainder of the activities will occur throughout the event. this event is free and open to the public. Families are encouraged to arrive early to be ready for the space-themed egg hunt at 1pm. - The Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Co and the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge will welcome visitors to view the Spring Roundup at the South Pony Corral on the evening of Friday, April 7th and the morning of Saturday, April 8th. Please enjoy this opportunity to view the ponies while observing safety precautions posted by the CVFC. Chincoteague Island Library to Celebrate “Locals Week at the Library”

Have you ever visited the Chincoteague Island Library?  From April 10-15 the Chincoteague Island Library wants to encourage new visitors as well as old friends to stop in to the Library during National Library Week. Everyone who stops in will have the opportunity to enter a free drawing for a tote full of great Library goodies valued at over $125.00.  Special guided tours of the Library, highlighting the history and offerings of the Library will offered on Tuesday,  April 11 at 2:00 PM and Thursday, April 13 at 3:00 PM.    

National Library Week is a time to highlight the changing role of libraries, librarians and library volunteers. The Chincoteague Island Library is evolving to serve the community. Elected officials, small business owners, students, residents and visitors depend upon the library and the resources it provides.

“The Library embraces the entire community, offering unlimited opportunities for personal growth and lifelong learning,” said Linda Ryan, President of the Chincoteague Island Library Board of Directors. “We hope that the residents of Chincoteague Island as well as the surrounding communities will stop in during this special week to learn more about what the Library has to offer.”

The Chincoteague Island Library is celebrating National Library Week by inviting residents to make a special trip to the Library to see what is new, tour the Library  and submit their name free for a chance to win a of tote bag filled with wonderful Library goodies.

STEM in the Sky Astronomy Series: Jupiter & Constellations Event

7pm-10pm. The NASA Wallops Flight Facility Visitor Center and its partner the Delmarva Space Sciences Foundation will hose the next installment of the STEM in the Sky Astronomy Series with an exploration of the planet Jupiter and constellation tours of the night sky. The event begins with an astronomy presentation at the NASA Visitor Center's Auditorium at 7pm followed by night sky observations through telescopes and binoculars on the grounds of the Visitor Center from 7:30pm until 10pm. Two 30 minute constallation tours of the nigh sky will be offered at 8pm and 9pm. The constellation tours are limited to 25 people and will be available on a first come first serve basis. Astronomy-themed movies, hands-on activities and crafts also will be available throughout the event. The STEM in the Sky Astronomy Series will end with the Total Solar Eclipse event on Monday, August 21. The event is free and open to the public. The Astronomy presentation will take place regardless of weather. However, the telescope viewing and constellation tours are subject to cancellation due to inclement weather. Chinco de Mayo: Special 5 x 5 Art Show and Sale
Party starts at 5pm and the art is revealed at 5:55 pm. The 5 x 5 Art Show & Sale is a creative fundraiser and celebration that takes place after the Annual Seafood Festival on Chincoteague Island. The art show and sale features artworks that are all 5 x 5 inches in size and they all sell for $55. The show and sale starts promtly at 5:55 pm when the artwork is revealed to the public for the first time. But plan to arrive at 5 pm to enjoy food, margaritas, sangria, beer, and soft drinks. A spirited musical performance will add to the festivities. If you would like to contribute original artwork to the event, please call the Museum at 757-336-6117. You may choose any media and subject matter. The only restriction is that all work must be 5 inches by 5 inches in scale. If you need a 5" x 5" canvas, the Museum has canvases for participating artists. 23rd Annual International Migratory Bird Celebration

International Migratory Bird Day (IMBD) is the only international education program that highlights and celebrates the migration of nearly 350 species of migratory birds between nesting habitats in North America and non-breeding grounds in Latin America, Mexico and the Caribbean. Each year IMBD explores a different aspect of migratory birds and their conservation. This year, many events will take place on May 13. Many wildlife refuges take part in IMBD celebrations. As the date approaches, check the Refuge System special events calendar for more IMBD event listings.

LABOR DAY WEEKEND - Saturday 9 to 5 and Sunday 10 to 4 -- Decoy carving, fine art, jewelry, photography, paintings.. Over 25 great exhibitors showcase some of the finest waterfowl carvings and wildlife art from the area. Meet the carvers and artists. Participate in the many raffles to be held. Most exhibits are for sale! Plus most of the proceeds will be donated back into the community to worthy causes such as the Island Library, the Scouts and the Scholarship Fund, just to name a few! 14th Annual Plein Air Art Show

More than 50 fine artists from the Mid-Atlantic and beyond to paint "en plein air" (French for painting outdoors) on Chincoteague and Assateague the week before.  On Saturday evening, at the United Methodist Church Social Hall on Church Street, you can see what they've created at a Show and Sale that is free to the public.  Come early, as the best pieces sell quickly.  A portion of the artwork sold benefits CCA.
