STEM in the Sky Astronomy Series - Earth's Moon
7pm-10pm. The NASA Wallops Flight Facility Visitor Center and its partner the Delmarva Space Sciences Foundation https://www.facebook.com/delmarvaspace/ will host the first installment of the STEM in the Sky Astronomy Series. This series will kick off with an exploration of the Earth's Moon and will also feature a new constellation tour of the night sky. The event begins with an astronomy presentation at the NASA Visitor Center's Auditorium at 7:00 p.m. followed by night sky observations through telescopes and binoculars on the grounds of the Visitor Center from 7:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. A new constellation tour of the night sky will be offered at 8:30 p.m. The constellation tour is limited to 25 people and will be available on a first come first serve basis. Astronomy-themed movies, hands-on activities and crafts also will be available throughout the event. The event is free and open to the public. The Astronomy presentation will take place regardless of weather; however, the telescope viewing and constellation tour are subject to cancellation due to inclement weather. The STEM in the Sky Astronomy Series will continue in 2017 with exploration of the Earth's Sun in January, Jupiter in May, and ending with the Solar Eclipse in August. Children's Tea Party with Mrs. Claus

2pm. Hampton Inn & Suites, 4179 Main Street. Once again, Mrs. Claus, accompanied by Santa’s elves, will travel all the way from the North Pole to be the guest of honor at the Christmas By the Sea Children’s Tea Party.
Mrs. Claus, who knows Santa better than anyone, will show the children a scrapbook of her life with Santa. She’ll offer sing-a-long Christmas songs, games and gifts. There will be snacks available and an opportunity to have their photo taken with Mrs Claus. Pre-paid reservations are required at $15 per person. Call 757-894-092. The children are encouraged to dress for a tea party. Accessories will be available for guests who do not have something.

Each month, the Island Coffeehouse presents a variety of arts in a listening room environment. Enjoy performances by acoustic musicians and spoken word artists, view some visual art, and savor food and drinks in a convivial atmosphere. Everyone is welcome. Doors open at 6:30pm. This year's theme....."Boots, Chaps & Cowboy Hats"
10:30pm. Robert Reed Downtown Park. The Pony Island Horseshoe Drop is an end of year celebration that culminates in a promenade of crazy costumes just before the countdown to the stroke of midnight. That's when the lighted horseshoe drops just in time to ring in the New Year! Wear your favorite costume or just be a spectator... It's all perfectly natural here! Prizes will be awarded in various categories. 14th Annual Plein Air Art Show

More than 50 fine artists from the Mid-Atlantic and beyond to paint "en plein air" (French for painting outdoors) on Chincoteague and Assateague the week before.  On Saturday evening, at the United Methodist Church Social Hall on Church Street, you can see what they've created at a Show and Sale that is free to the public.  Come early, as the best pieces sell quickly.  A portion of the artwork sold benefits CCA.
