Have you ever had questions about the ocean and its inhabitants? Ever wonder what type of sea creature Sponge Bob is? Can you eat a Sea Cucumber?  Children will learn about the unique marine habitats of the Eastern Shore and the interesting creatures that live in them. Hands-on activities, games, and active observation of Marine Animals will keep your child excited and fascinated! They will gain an understanding and appreciation of the natural world around them. Marsh Mysteries

Spend the morning in one of the most productive ecosystems on the planet! During this class participants will visit the salt marsh in the restricted Wallops Island, VA. Participants will observe the wildlife that call the marsh home, learn about food webs, marsh formation and tidal zonation.  During this workshop participants will have the opportunity to do a “productivity plunge” where they will get to experience the marsh (and mud!) in true full immersion style. Advanced Marine Invertebrate Study

Chincoteague Bay Field Station, 34001 Mill Dam Rd, Wallops Island. Attention Vertebrates! A stunning 97% of the world's organisms lack a backbone! If you are interested in spineless marine creatures, such as mollusks, arthropods, and cnidarians, then this program is perfect for you. Participants will discover the remarkable life history, behavior, development, physiology, and anatomy of the main phyla of invertebrates. A special emphasis will be placed on coastal Atlantic marine species. Fieldwork, both shore- and boat-based, and laboratory time will focus on collection and identification of local invertebrates, with opportunities for behavioral and/or physiological experimentation. During this program students will be supervised by summer camp counselors. Students will attend the program alone without a parent or adult chaperone. Student will be housed with other homeschool students of the same gender. History Camp: Advanced Spy Camp & Nature Detective Camp

The Eastern Shore of Virginia Historical Society and the Eastern Shore Soil and Water Conservation District are offering an advanced camp in early American espionage tactics and cracking Nature's codes. Campers will create advanced codes, complete reconnaissance assignments, master the art of disguise and learn to travel behind enemy lines. All the while, they will broaden their observation skills and look more closely at the world around them to discover nature’s mysteries. Campers will learn to identify a variety of animal tracks, birds and trees as well as mastering solar cooking techniques. Presented by the Chincoteague Island Theatre Company. For students 10-18 years of age. Taught by Lexi Hubb, Artistic Director of CITC. This program includes one full day of classes with two nights of lodging. Classes offered during this sampler include crabbing, beach exploration on restricted Wallops Island, and intertidal class . Evening activities include a rousing family campfire with songs and skits, and a seafood feast served family style. This science-based program is full of hands-on learning opportunities. Wild ponies, egrets and horseshoe crabs all await you! We provide the meals and activities, so your family can focus on new experiences, learning, share stories and laughing together in a relaxed outdoor atmosphere.
