Popular
crabbing locations on Chincoteague include the Memorial Park waterfront, the Chincoteague-Assateague causeway just before the bridge,
and on Assateague Island near the small bridge about half way to the beach. The
simplest crabbing gear consists of a chicken-neck on a string, a net for
bringing the crab out of the water, and a container for holding the
crabs. Crab traps are also sometimes used by visitors and are available
at the Island's hardware stores.
