Great Web Page. Been visiting Chincoteague at least once a year since birth (23 yrs.). Its like a second home and a great getaway. Hopefully the flounder fishing will make a comeback to the days of old.

We love Chincoteague and Assateague! We have visited twice, and plan to come back as much as possible. Please don't develop too much and ruin the experience. Love your web site!

This summer was my fifth summer in Chincoteague and my sixth visit to the island. This year the island was the meeting place of choice for me and my best friend Eric, who lives across the country in Georgia. The charm of the island and the draw of the ponies was more than enough reason to hold this meeting here, in Chincoteague. Needless to say, this trip was a success, allowing my friends and family to reunite happily and enjoy our time both with the ponies and on the beach. I am eternally grateful, and this is an experience which I shall never forget. Thank you, Chincoteague.

Have not been to the island since I was 21 years old. Used to spend many weekends at Tom's Cove and The Bowden's residence on BeBe Road. Am looking forward this summer to bringing my own family to your wonderful island to share with my family the great memories and wonderful people the island has to offer. Thanks!

We come to Chincoteague every year and are excited about the proposed new Wildlife Informational Center. Every time we come back to the island we feel like we're coming home. Being able to read the Beacon on line keeps us in touch on what is happening on the island.

We can't say enough nice things about the Island. We started coming down in 92 and have not missed a year since. There are 4 generations coming down now and we feel it's home. We can't wait to get down home every year it feels so good!! We started when my daughter was in high school and just keep coming back. Once you visit you just have to keep coming back. It's a nice place to bring your kids. So much to do and learn. Can't wait til next summer we will be back again.

I visited just over a month ago, and can hardly wait to come back! Matter of fact, I would love to relocate there. Everyone was
so nice and friendly towards us, and the ponies stole my heart! I am at a crossroads in my life, you may say; who knows if it could lead to the Eastern Shore? Thank you for the tourist info you sent, and my only disappointment was when I had to leave and drive back to Washington to catch the flight home! Indeed, Chincoteague could easily become home.

The first time my (not then) husband and I went out to visit we stayed at Miss Mollys. It was there that we fell in love (wow!) The second time out, my husband asked me to marry him on the deserted beach at Chinocteague Island - what a beautiful place. It will always hold a warm spot in our hearts and we hope to go back someday with our two daughters.

We have been visiting Chincoteague every fall  for the past 15 years! It is still our favorite get-away spot. We love the island atmosphere, and enjoy the wildlife and beach on Assateague. We'll see you later this week! Thanks!
> P.S. We can't wait to make that trip to the Island Creamery!

Hi, I am the great-granddaughter of Wilbur George Twilley. He owned the Twilley's General Store. It would be so interesting to hear about any information that might be available. My grandmother, his daughter, Juanita Briggs is now 88, going on 89 this next month. I hope I am not wasting anyone's time with this inquiry. I hear people using the internet for such purposes as this. I hope all is well on the island. Bye, Lee Anne Norris
[fr. Webmaster - A photo of the store with Wilbur Twilley and others is in the Fire Company section in Maps & Other Information, Island History, Chincoteague Island.]

The two islands bring back fond memories of when I was a little girl. We would camp in Chincoteague and visit the info Center and ranger classes on Assateague. I just returned from a camping trip to the Maryland side of Assateague Island with my husband and children. What a totally different experience, but an exciting time to reminisce and share past experiences with my family. I enjoy the information available, the activities available, and just the experience to share in the natural beauty and originality of two islands with unique wildlife and stories to share! I enjoyed my time before and now at the Islands... we will return again and again!

I think Chincoteague is a very interesting place to learn about. I hope to visit there someday and see all of the things I have read about. My mom and dad visited there a long time ago and told me all about it. That is the very first place my mommy ever saw the ocean. I believe some of the stories I read about Chincoteague are true and I like the detail in them. Soome time in my life I hope I can find more books about Chincoteague so I can learn more.I like the books about Chincoteague and wish I could thank the authors that wrote them.Thank you very much for the beautiful web site. Very pleasant page. I am looking for info on the refuge and that does not seem to be well marked.

I visited this island for four weeks in August. My boyfriend and his mother live there and invited me. I was very happy to see this nice island. In Germany everybody in my neighborhood knows now, where Chincoteague island is. I'll come back.

I was so excited to find your site!!! I have vacationed in Chincoteague for many years with my family while I was growing up. Now I am hoping to make plans of my own to come out and visit my favorite place in the world! Chincoteague is the one place where you can experience true relaxation and peace.

We spent a beautiful Spring week on your beautiful Island in May. We had no expectations of what to expect, other than a nice few days from work. Much to our surprise WE FELL IN LOVE with your beautiful place. We rented bikes and went on long morning rides on your adjoining island and enjoyed the birds, horses, otters, geese, swans, deer, squirell and much more than all of this - peace and quite - then came the Ocean. How beautiful all of this was to us. We stayed on the inner coastal waterway at a little house we rented from Island Getaway which we found to be both fitting to our needs and the added plus of the most beautiful sunset we have ever seen...We went on an island tour with Caption Barry whom we will never forget. He treated us as if we were the only couple on the whole island and gave us many tips on places to go and see. We will be planning another few days with you all in October. I am going to see if I can find out how to get our tickets to the Oyster fest now. See you,
gloria/doug

Moved from Long Island NY to Va. three years ago and vacationed in chincoteague this summer and felt like I was back in Long Island. The people are super, the Island is super, what else can I say other than it's a wonderful place to vacation and or live in. Coming back in September for two more great weeks.

I vacation in Chincoteague every year, and sometimes twice and three times a year. It is a beautiful place, the people are wonderful, and the atmosphere is relaxing. You have maintained a beautiful environment, both for the people and the animals. You should be very proud of your island, and all the natural treasure it holds. Thank you so much for allowing everyone to sample the beautiful land you call home. And thank you for all the wonderful memories.

This is a beautifully designed page! I was first introduced to Chincoteague through the Marguerite Henry book "Misty of Chincoteague." I never realized that this was a real place with a real pony swim, with real people! Found an article in my latest Traveler magazine, and decided to call for information. Hope to be there next year!

My wife and I spent our 1998 summer vacation on the Island and had one of the best vacations ever. Being from the Mountain State, I love the outdoors and all of its beauty and wildlife. The Islands have all of this.

Just had to say how much we enjoyed this year's pony penning week. Last year we bought a pony at the auction and were suprised to see her in the July 24th Beachcomber front page (she is comming out of the water and has her tongue hanging out). We love the island, wildlife and the people. I hope that my 2 young children will cherish the time spent there just like I did as a child.

My husband and I have visited Chincoteague many times since 1986. We began our courtship there. It is a fabulous place. We hope that it stays as uncommerialized as it now is. We too hope to retire there in a couple of years.

My family has been visiting for only 2 years - four times in two years to be exact - and we cannot get enough. Chincoteague will always be in our hearts and our children's memories. We can't wait to return and make some new memories.

I found the web site to be very informative. We plan on visiting next week for the pony swim. Our grandkids are 6 and 4.  I also tried to find info about the eroding soil of Assateague Island but couldn't find that. But otherwise, I thought it was very well done. Congrats.

Just returned from spending 3 nights at the Mariner Motel and had a great time at the beach, shops and touring the islands. Thanks for the info you sent to me. It was a great help. We even bought a couple of prints from Island Gallery & Gifts.

I have been coming to your island for over 20 years. My grandfather brought me there as a young boy to go fishing.  We stayed at the Inlet View.  I am amazed to see how the island has grown.  The last time we were in Chincoteague I asked my girlfriend to marry me.  We just got married in May and will be returning to the island for a Labor Day vacation.  Take care of the cats until we get there.

My family loves Chincoteague. I went as a little girl 30 years ago, now my husband and I are taking our 2 boys. We visit at least 3 times each year. We love to surf fish, swim, hike, ride on the beach and experiencing all the island has to offer. We love the birding!!  We go nowhere else for vacation, and hope that the island does not give in to commercialization - that would change a very special place.

I love your island.  I have been coming there since I was 14.  I am now 25 and will be going this August with my husband and parents.  We are even thinking about celebrating our one year anniversary down there.

I just got back from your beautiful island 2 days ago, and I wish I was still there!!   I am 17 years old, and we've been going annually since I was 15.  Everything is so perfect down there.  The beach is beautiful, and all the people are so nice.   I've only been home for 2 days, and I miss Chincoteague terribly.  I'm really looking forward to next year!!!

I visited you all back in 1997. I enjoyed myself a lot. One day I hope to own one of your ponies. Hope I will be back this year.
