During the 2nd Saturday Art Strolls, participating Chincoteague Island galleries and shops offer special events from 6 to 10 p.m. including art and craft demonstrations, exhibits, readings and book signings, live music, and wine tastings.

Also within walking distance are boat rentals for your fishing pleasure and cruise boats offering scenic day and evening trips through the Island waters.

Only a few minutes by car will bring you to the NASA Visitor's Center just off the Island or to the Oyster and Maritime Museum (near the bridge to Assateague Island) where you'll discover a wealth of information on the gathering and processing of oysters and find a large collection of unusual crafts and sea shells.

Of course, you won't want to miss those special events on Chincoteague such as the Migratory Bird Celebration in May, the Firemen's Carnival and pony swim and auction in July, and the Oyster Festival and Chili-Chowder Cook Off in October.

For the children, you'll find minigolf, a movie theater, pony rides, and arcade games. And in Memorial Park, on the water near the location of the pony swim, there's a playground and picnic area.

For the fisherman, there is channel, surf and deep-sea fishing. Fish from the public piers, or compete in various fishing tournaments throughout the year. Go crabbing or clamming in the abundant waters surrounding both islands.
