Ninety-five per cent of the automobiles on the island were damaged or ruined. Between 250,000 and 350,000 chickens drowned. A lone chick survived the flood in the Bennett’s chicken house.
Fifty yards down Taylor Street from Main Street is the Redmen's Cemetery. Many of the vaults were washed out of the ground and floated down the street to settle in the back yard of Mrs. Stella Collins. Across the island, 31 vaults were displaced. One rose up in the water, flipped over, and then returned to its original resting place bottom up. |
